Meet McKinley: We call her "Kin" for short sometimes. She's seriously the sweetest girl ever! She a big teddy bear with the most incredible hugs! She loves dearly, with her whole soul and her eyes speak deep profound love. She’s our side-kick while doing daily chores around the barnyard. She’s a leaner too; if you ever sit for a little bit, she’ll lean right into you and put her head on your lap. Such a sweetheart! She and Denali were our first official Livestock Guardians, and they truly exemplify a LGD (Livestock Guardian Dog) in every sense of the word.
McKinley is a stunningly beautiful girl. She's badger marked, though it's almost completely faded away with age (as is typical in Pyrs). She still shows a little color on her ears, but that's about it. She's proudly AKC registered with a champion & guardian pedigree. She has a majestic large block head with a slight wave to her lush, weatherproof coat. She's a strong thick girl, weighing in currently at 92# even while working full time as a guardian. My guardian Pyrs stay strong, lean and healthy by having jobs they love doing. She's
She and our Denali are full sister litter mates. They come from a farm where they were around livestock from birth until we acquired them at 10 weeks old. These two sisters adore one another, and I mean ADORE! They are are each others best friend and have never fought or even growled at the other. In fact, they’re super patient and loving with each other. They typically sleep touching one another. McKinley is VERY aware of any threats from the sky. We jokingly say it’s a NO FLY ZONE over the barnyard! McKinley is officially the sky watchman. She and our Luna have the most easy going personalities of all our dogs; making her a perfect pack member. She’s kind, sweet, patient & loving to friends stopping by, but her favorite is our Fed Ex lady who brings my whole gang treats!
Fun Fact! Denali and McKinley are both named after the tallest mountain in North America, located in Alaska. This one mountain is known by both names. The original name given to the mountain was Denali. However, the mountain was renamed in 1896 to honor the then President McKinley. Recently, in 2015 the mountain name has officially returned to the original name, Denali. Kelly got to see the ever elusive Denali ('she' is usually covered in clouds) during a trip to Alaska in 2019, where she worked with the dogs running in 'The Last Great Race', The Iditarod! What an adventure!
